IRS e-Services down this weekend

The IRS plans an e-Services maintenance outage for this Saturday, Oct. 27, and Sunday, Oct. 28, as it continues work on preparing for next tax season.

Users will be unable to access their e-Services accounts or e-Services tools over the weekend.

With the many changes to the Tax Code created by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, some are concerned that the IRS may not be ready in time for the 2019 tax season. A recent report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (See “TIGTA warns IRS of delayed start to 2019 tax season”) pointed out that the agency will need to create or revise approximately 450 forms, publications and instructions, and modify around 140 information technology systems, and that many of its business units had already missed deadlines for sending in work requests to the IRS IT organization.

The e-Services outage should not affect PTIN renewal, which began earlier in the month. (See “PTIN renewal season begins.”)
